Awarded for actions during the World War I

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Duncan K. McRae (ASN: 2261709), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company M, 362d Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, A.E.F., near Gesnes, France, 11 October 1918. Sergeant McRae took out a patrol for the purpose of ascertaining the position of the enemy and the location of machine-guns. Three of his men were killed, but he continued on over difficult terrain and returned with information of the highest value in subsequent operations.
