Awarded for actions during the Vietnam War

(Citation Needed) - SYNOPSIS: Private First Class Daniel E. Reynolds, III (ASN: US-51597184), United States Army, was awarded the Soldier's Medal for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with Battery C, 7th Battalion, 13th Artillery, in the Republic of Vietnam on 19 November 1966. While part of a supply detail during a combat operation southwest of Phu Cat, Private First Class Reynolds was crossing a narrow bridge over the Song Con River, abnormally deep and swift due to heavy rain when a Vietnamese fell off the bridge into the swirling water below. Without regard for his personal safety, Private First Class Reynolds unhesitatingly jumped from the truck he was riding into the swift flowing river in an attempt to save the life of the struggling and fast disappearing Vietnamese. Despite the swift current and deep water Private First Class Reynolds managed to reach the Vietnamese and, with supreme effort was able to keep both himself and the Vietnamese above water until a small boat could retrieve them. Private First Class Reynolds' courage, determination and devotion to duty of the highest order were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
