Army Sgt. Jesse R. Tilton

Died July 16, 2010 Serving During Operation Enduring Freedom


23, of Decatur, Ill.; assigned to 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died July 16 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, of wounds sustained July 13 when insurgents attacked his unit in Kandahar, Afghanistan, with rifle, rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire.

Funeral services, burial scheduled

MOUNT ZION, Ill. — A funeral is planned July 29 for a soldier who died in Afghanistan.

Army Sgt. Jesse Tilton, 23, of Mount Zion will be buried at Point Pleasant Cemetery in Long Creek. Both communities are southeast of Decatur.

Tilton died July 16 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany. Army officials say he was injured when his unit was attacked July 13 in Kandahar by insurgents using rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.

Tilton was a medic assigned to 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, out of Fort Bragg, N.C.

He was on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan after joining the Army in 2006.
