LIMA, Ohio — Part of a state highway in western Ohio has been named in honor of a Kentucky-based soldier who died last summer in Afghanistan after being wounded when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his vehicle.

The Lima News reports his family and friends were on hand as part of state Route 67 was formerly dedicated this week as the Staff Sgt. Sonny Zimmerman Memorial Highway.

The 25-year-old soldier from Waynesfield was based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He had served four tours overseas.

His wife and his father said Zimmerman wouldn't consider himself a hero but would have appreciated being recognized for the work he did on the job. His father joked that Zimmerman didn't care much for accolades but might've made an exception about the road dedication.
